Islas Hormigas Underwater Reservation Park

  • Bajo de Dentro - very good dive site in the Marine park. Depth: 4 - 55m; lot of fish (Baracudas, Perches, Conger, Mural Eels, Eagle rays, ...) also different kind of soft corals (e.g. red gorgonias). Sometimes strong current but usual suitable for every level.
  • Bajo de Piles I and II - this dive sites are also in the “Islas Hormigas marine park”, consist of two big rocks; max.depth appr. 33 meters; nicest area between 10-20 meters; a lot of fish; sometimes current.
  • Bajo de la Testa - closer to the shore; max Depth: 14 meters, no current; very suitable for beginners.
  • Bajo de Fuera - Biggest reefsystem of the “ Islas Hormigas”; length appr. 100 meters, depth: 4-60 meters, sometimes current; abounding in fish; Particularities: Southwest-side: steep slope to 52 - 65 meter; 4 wrecks: North America”, sunk about 1883; depth 45-68 meters (pieces are scattered) "Minerva”, sunk 1899; depth: 30-50 meters (screw at 50 m); “Sirius”, sunk 1906; most famous wreck in the area (pieces are scattered) depth: 25-47 meters IMPORTANT: to dive this site we have to apply for a special permission 2 weeks prior of the dive!

  • Isla Grosa - big island in front of the Tomas Maestre harbour; very nice dive site on the south part of the island, here is also the entrance for the cave - 80m inside the island, max depth 7m - (we start our Cave training at this site), also the east side of the island is very nice; max depth around the island is 21m; 
  • El Farallon - Max. depth 23 meters; lot of fish; very nice underwater landscape; usually no current; also very good dive site for beginners.
  • La Laja La Laja means flag; at the bottom there are pieces of plates etc to see because of the loss of cargo; Depth: 3-23 meters; usually no current, small canyon, a lot of fish; good place for beginners, but also very nice for advanced divers.
  •  La Campana - small reef 300m away from La Laja, min depth is 12m and max around 19m

    There are more reefs or rock formations, but mostly in deeper water. If we have more information we will post them here.
