Isla Gomera - Naranjito Thordisa - Carbonero Two more interesting wrecks in our area are the Naranjito and Carbonero. That are not the real names but what the spanish divers call them regarding their cargo.
The Naranjito or better Isla Gomera (original name) was built in the year 1918, a 51 metre freighter which sunk on the 12th. of April 1946 carrying its freight of oranges (hence its name). The wreck lies about 1 mile out of Cabo de Palos harbour. The wreck is still in good conditions and it is a nice spot for divers who like wreck diving.
It starts at a depth of 27 meters and the prop lies at a depth of 42 meters. Sometimes there are really strong currents around the wreck which are not always noticed from the surface. On the wreck you can enter the load compartments safely and also enter the engine room, meet the congers, sunfish, barracudas or shoals of other smaller species.
